Train Coaches Derail Early Morning at Kalka Station, Chaos Among Passengers

Chandigarh, May 22, 2025 – Chaos broke out early Thursday morning at Kalka Railway Station when two coaches of a train being moved towards the washing yard derailed. The incident occurred around 4:45 a.m. while the train was being reversed into the yard. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the derailment led to the cancellation of the Kalka-Delhi Shatabdi Express.
According to information, Train No. 14331 was stationed at Kalka Railway Station on Wednesday night. On Thursday morning, it was being moved to the washing yard when, during the reverse movement, two of its coaches suddenly derailed and sank into the ground.
Derailment Disrupts Track, Shatabdi Delayed
The derailment in the middle of the track disrupted railway movement. The Shatabdi Express, scheduled to depart from Kalka to Delhi at 6:15 a.m., could not leave on time and remained stationed till 8 a.m., causing major inconvenience to passengers.
Railway and Security Officials Reach the Spot
Upon receiving information about the incident, personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrived at the scene. Senior railway officials and technical teams also reached the site promptly and began restoration work.
GRP officer Vinod Kumar confirmed that the incident took place around 4:45 a.m. No casualties have been reported so far. According to railway officials, the derailment occurred due to a technical fault.
The Railway Administration has cancelled the Kalka-Delhi Shatabdi for the day. Efforts are underway to restore movement in the yard and place the derailed coaches back on the track.
