Rain brings respite to parts of Punjab as heatwave grips other districts

Chandigarh, May 23, 2025: Residents of Punjab, reeling under intense summer heat, have finally received some respite as sudden rains and cool winds have brought a welcome change in the weather.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), there has been a notable drop in the state's average temperature by 4.6°C over the past 24 hours, offering much-needed relief in several regions. However, the heat still lingers in some parts of the state.
Rain and Fog Forecast for Majha and Doaba
The IMD has predicted showers and light fog in the Majha and Doaba regions over the next few days.
Heavy rainfall is expected in various areas throughout the week, potentially improving weather conditions further. Meanwhile, the Malwa region is still experiencing high temperatures but may also see relief following the predicted rainfall.
Yellow Alert Issued for Several Districts
A yellow alert has been issued for multiple districts, including Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Ludhiana, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Patiala, and Fatehgarh Sahib. These areas may face thunderstorms, heavy rain, and patchy fog.
Orange Alert for Heatwave and Warm Nights
On the other hand, districts such as Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Barnala, Mansa, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala are unlikely to receive rainfall. These regions remain under an orange alert due to ongoing heatwave conditions and unusually warm nights.
