Himachal: ASI suspended in Vimal Negi case for hiding pen drive, departmental probe ordered

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), May 23, 2025: In a major development in the high-profile Vimal Negi death case, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Pankaj has been suspended for allegedly concealing a pen drive found with the deceased.
The action was taken by Shimla SP following findings of negligence on the part of the police officer.
The suspension comes days after the Himachal Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) submitted an affidavit in the High Court on May 21, raising concerns over the conduct of the Shimla Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) handling the case.
Chief Engineer of the Power Corporation, Vimal Negi, was found dead under mysterious circumstances.During the investigation, a pen drive recovered from his body was reportedly concealed by the ASI, prompting swift action by the police department.
Alongside the suspension, a departmental inquiry has been initiated against ASI Pankaj to probe the matter further. The case continues to draw public attention as demands grow for a transparent and thorough investigation.
