Chandigarh, May 23, 2025: In a strong move to reclaim public land and ensure urban order, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh (MCC) launched an anti-encroachment drive today in Burial Village and Sector 45, acting on directives from Commissioner Amit Kumar, IAS.
The operation focused on removing illegally dumped and abandoned vehicles on MC land. As a result, the MCC removed 23 abandoned cars, 2 motorcycles, and several vehicle parts including seats, doors, and jacks that were occupying public space and inconveniencing residents.
A total of 42 challans were issued to violators under applicable municipal laws. The MCC emphasized that encroachments on public property will not be tolerated.
Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar issued a stern warning to repeat offenders, stating, “The city’s public spaces must remain accessible and clean. No one has the right to misuse public land for personal benefit.”
The drive is part of a citywide campaign aimed at improving urban aesthetics, maintaining public order, and ensuring fair use of municipal property across Chandigarh. Further enforcement actions are expected to follow.
