Tarn Taran (Punjab), May 25, 2025:Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Vice President and former Khadoor Sahib MLA Ravinder Singh Brahmpura has written to Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, demanding a high-level investigation into alleged abuse of power, obstruction of justice, and unlawful activities by the current Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Khadoor Sahib, Manjinder Singh Lalpura.
In a detailed statement to the media, Brahmpura accused MLA Lalpura of misusing his position to interfere in police operations, shield accused persons, and undermine state security, calling the situation a serious threat to both Punjab and the nation.
Sand Mining Scandal & Alleged Interference in Police Transfers
Brahmpura highlighted a significant case involving illegal sand mining in which MLA Lalpura’s brother-in-law was allegedly apprehended by then-SSP Tarn Taran, Gurmeet Singh Chauhan.
According to Brahmpura, rather than allowing the law to take its course, MLA Lalpura used his political influence to have SSP Chauhan transferred and the investigating officers suspended, effectively derailing the probe.
“The government has failed to release the report sought by then-Governor Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, which has only emboldened the wrongdoers,” said Brahmpura.
Allegations in Sub-Inspector Murder Case
Brahmpura also leveled serious accusations against MLA Lalpura regarding the murder of Punjab Police Sub-Inspector Charanjit Singh in Kot Mohammad Khan village.
He alleged that Lalpura sheltered the accused at his own residence and publicly defended them in press conferences, amounting to criminal sheltering and interference in justice.
Further intensifying the claims, Brahmpura revealed that illegal weapons and a drone were recovered from one of the arrested individuals—allegedly a close associate of MLA Lalpura—by Amritsar Rural Police, raising concerns over cross-border arms smuggling with implications for national security.
Alleged Intimidation of Police
Brahmpura condemned what he described as Lalpura’s attempts to intimidate law enforcement by accusing the current Tarn Taran SSP of filing false cases.
“This is a deliberate effort to derail investigations and demoralize police officers acting in public interest,” he stated.
Demands for Immediate Action
In his letter to the Governor, Brahmpura called for immediate action on the following fronts:
- High-level impartial probe into the illegal sand mining case and the alleged manipulation of police transfers.
- Thorough investigation into MLA Lalpura’s alleged role in sheltering murder accused in the Sub-Inspector Charanjit Singh case.
- Central agency-led inquiry into the arms smuggling racket involving Lalpura’s associates, citing national security risks.
SAD Vows to Continue Exposing ‘Anti-People’ Governance
Brahmpura concluded by stating, “If such crimes committed under the intoxication of power are left unchecked, law and order in Punjab will collapse. The SAD remains committed to protecting the rights and safety of the people and will continue to expose the anti-people policies of the AAP government.”
He expressed hope that the Governor would act urgently on the matter in the interest of justice and public safety.
