Amritsar (Punjab), June 1, 2025 — Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) President Simranjit Singh Mann has strongly criticized Damdami Taksal Chief Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma over his reported opposition to allowing Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gargaj to speak during the upcoming Shaheedi Ardas at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on June 6.
“Sri Akal Takht Sahib is the spiritual throne of the Sikh nation. It is a place of unity, humility, and remembrance for our martyrs. Any attempt to suppress the voice of Kuldeep Singh Gargaj is unjust and divisive,” Mann said in a firm statement, warning against what he described as “mischief” that could disturb the sanctity of the event.
Referencing Sikh history, Mann added, “From Ahmad Shah Abdali to Indira Gandhi, many have attacked this sacred Takht, yet it has remained unshaken. Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma must uphold its dignity and speak with seriousness and respect.”
Mann also called on all Sikh organizations and the community to observe the June 6 martyrdom remembrance events with complete solidarity and humility. “This is a time for unity, not division. Holding a separate program every year at Damdami Taksal Mehta only sends mixed messages to the nation,” he said.
He urged Baba Dhumma and all factions to come together at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, stating that “a single voice and a single message from this highest seat of Sikh authority” is the need of the hour.
