Amritsar (Punjab), June 14, 2025: The relentless heatwave sweeping across Punjab has now begun claiming lives. In Amritsar, a man was found dead due to suspected heatstroke as temperatures in the region approached a scorching 50 degrees Celsius.
The unidentified body was discovered near Company Bagh, lying by the roadside.
According to media reports, the man had reportedly lain down to rest during the afternoon, but when he did not wake up by evening, residents alerted the police. Upon arrival, police found the man unresponsive and not breathing.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the intense heat may have caused his death, although a post-mortem is awaited for confirmation. Police officials are now working to identify the deceased by circulating his photograph across local police stations to trace his family.
Authorities aim to ensure his last rites are conducted according to his family’s customs.
The incident has sparked concern as Punjab continues to battle severe heat conditions, with more cases of heat-related illness expected if the weather does not ease.
