Chandigarh, June 16, 2025: In a major political development in Punjab, three prominent leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD-Badal) — Rajinder Deepa (Sunam), Sarbjot Singh Sabi, and Anil Thakur (Mukerian) — formally joined the Congress Party on Sunday.
They were welcomed into the party fold by Bhupesh Baghel, Congress General Secretary in charge of Punjab, in the presence of Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, and other senior leaders at an induction event in Chandigarh.
Baghel hailed the move as part of a growing trend, saying, “Coming events cast their shadow. A political wave is clearly building in favour of the Congress across Punjab.”
He added that many leaders from rival parties were in touch and that more such inductions would follow soon.
Echoing Baghel’s optimism, Raja Warring declared, “The writing is on the wall. Congress is coming back. People are tired of the AAP government's failed promises and want real governance again.”
Partap Singh Bajwa praised the new entrants for their service and credibility, stating that their inclusion would further strengthen the Congress ahead of upcoming political battles.
“Only the Congress has the experience and commitment to protect Punjab’s interests,” he said.
Other senior Congress leaders present included Brahm Mohindra, Rana KP Singh, Balbir Sidhu, Capt Sandeep Sandhu, and Barindermeet Singh Pahra, signaling strong party unity as Congress ramps up its presence in the state.
