PAU’s Director Students’ Welfare Dr Nirmal Singh Jaura releases book “Lockdown”

Ludhiana (Punjab), June 16, 2025 – Dr Nirmal Singh Jaura, Director Students’ Welfare at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has authored a new book titled “Lockdown”, which was officially released today in a ceremony held at the university.
The book is dedicated to society and reflects on the multifaceted impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.Presiding over the event, PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal highlighted the severe impact of COVID-19 on global health, livelihoods, and agriculture.
He noted that the lockdown period brought widespread disruption and underscored the influence of climate and environment on public health.
Registrar Dr Rishi Pal Singh commended Dr Jaura’s strong linguistic command, while former Police Commissioner and writer Sardar Gurpreet Singh Toor praised the book’s accessibility, stating it is written in a language relatable to the general public.
Speaking about the book, Dr Jaura remarked, “Although ‘lockdown’ is an English term, it has universally replaced the word ‘Taalabandi’ even in Punjabi, reflecting its global recognition.”
Dr Rupinder Kaur, Associate Director (Skill Development), welcomed the guests and shared that several articles in the book had previously been published in newspapers.
Tej Partap Singh Sandhu emphasized humanity’s vital relationship with nature, while Dr Kamaljeet Suri, Joint Director Students’ Welfare, delivered the vote of thanks.
The event was attended by PAU deans, directors, and department heads. Proceedings were conducted by Dr Ashoo Toor.
