Emergency to be observed as Black Day by Loktantra Senani Sangh on June 25
Abohar June 23, 2025: Loktantra Senani Sangh Abohar will observe June 25 as "Black Day" to mark 50 years since the imposition of Emergency in India by the then Congress government in 1975. The program will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday at Jai Prakash Narayan Park in the New Abadi area of Abohar.
Rajesh Gupta, a member of the Sangh and the event organizer, said that the Emergency was one of the darkest periods in Indian democracy, during which a large number of citizens were victimized. He alleged that the Congress government at the time imposed Emergency solely to cling to power, and that is why Loktantra Senani Sangh is commemorating it as a Black Day.
Veteran member of the Sangh, Ram Kishan Mittal, will be the keynote speaker at the event. He has appealed to all members of the association to come together in unity on this day.
Gupta emphasized that many young individuals risked their lives and endured harsh imprisonments to protect democratic values during that time. He called for recognition and support for the families of such individuals. The Sangh noted that June 25, 1975, marked a direct assault on India’s Constitution, curbing citizens' rights to speak, write, and express themselves freely.
Gupta also raised concern over the alleged discrimination against Emergency-era warriors from Punjab, stating that while other states provide due benefits and honours to their democracy fighters, the central government has not extended the same recognition to those from Punjab.
