Ludhiana (Punjab), June 23, 2025: In a swift political development following his defeat in the Ludhiana West Assembly by-election, Congress leader Bharat Bhushan Ashu has resigned from his post as Working President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC).
Ashu, who lost to AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora by a significant margin, said he was stepping down to take moral responsibility for the party’s loss in the high-stakes bypoll.
“I accept the people’s verdict with humility and take full responsibility for the result,” Ashu stated after submitting his resignation.
The bypoll result dealt a blow to the Punjab Congress, which had positioned Ludhiana West as a prestige battle.
Ashu’s resignation marks the second major reaction within the party, following PPCC chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring’s statement earlier in the day dismissing AAP’s win as "no big deal" and promising party introspection.
