Chandigarh, June 23, 2025: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring downplayed the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) victory in the Ludhiana West Assembly by-election, calling it “no big deal” and alleging that the ruling party misused the entire official machinery to secure the win.
Speaking informally with reporters in Chandigarh, Warring said that while the Congress will undertake serious introspection following the result, the outcome of the by-election does not reflect the party’s strength on the ground.
“This was just a by-election. Our real fight is for 2027, and we will take it to its logical conclusion,” said Warring.
The PCC chief acknowledged the efforts of Congress workers in Ludhiana West, commending them for putting up a strong fight “against all odds and against the entire government apparatus.”
Warring also pointed to AAP’s poor performance in the 2024 General Elections, where it lost 10 out of 13 parliamentary seats in Punjab. He highlighted that Congress had won 7 seats, narrowly missing out on two more.
He reiterated that the Congress remains deeply rooted at the grassroots level and that one bypoll result should not be seen as a political turning point.
“This result doesn’t signify any major shift. AAP’s use of power and influence to sway the bypoll doesn't change the bigger picture,” he added.
