Amid intense speculation over a possible shift to parliamentary politics, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday firmly ruled out any move to the Rajya Sabha, asserting that he remains committed to his role in active politics and governance.
Addressing media after victory in Punjab and Gujarat , Kejriwal stated:
“The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) will decide who goes to the Rajya Sabha, but I am not going. Kejriwal is not going.”
His clarification comes on a day when AAP’s sitting Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora secured victory in the Ludhiana West Assembly bypoll, defeating Congress veteran Bharat Bhushan Ashu wuth margin of 10637 votes. With Arora now set to resign from the Upper House, the question of who will replace him has gained significance.
Given that AAP holds strength of 94 MLAs out of House of 117 in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, the party will be electing a successor of its choice. This has fueled speculation about possible high-profile nominations, including Kejriwal himself. The opposition leaders had made this issue an agenda to oppose AAp in this by-poll, however, with his clear denial, Kejriwal has signaled that he intends to continue leading the party from the front, focusing on state-level governance and national outreach.
