Ferozepur, June 23, 2025: In a major initiative to promote tourism and honour the legacy of freedom fighters, the Centre government has approved a ₹24.99 crore project to develop Hussainiwala as a cultural and heritage destination. Senior BJP leader and National Executive Committee Member Dr. Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi announced the project while launching a scathing attack on local Congress leaders, accusing them of misleading the public by falsely claiming credit for central government projects.
Dr. Sodhi revealed that the funds were sanctioned following his meeting with Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, four months ago, during which he raised the demand for the development of Hussainiwala. The project includes beautification of the martyrdom site of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru, along with infrastructure upgrades such as civil works, roads, gates, footpaths, fountains, parks, and digital installations.
The detailed project breakdown includes ₹843.09 lakh for civil works, ₹380.60 lakh for park and memorial beautification, ₹3344.27 lakh for electrical works, ₹63.51 lakh for CCTV installations, and ₹625.80 lakh for street and digital projection development. Additionally, ₹55 lakh will be spent on fountains, ₹64.50 lakh on recreational areas for children and the elderly, and ₹31.90 lakh on solar and RO plants. Investments will also be made in app and website development, skill-building, and sanitation.
Dr. Sodhi added that despite being a border district, Ferozepur has immense tourism potential, and such projects will help boost local employment and business opportunities. He also pointed out that a previous ₹7 crore light and sound project, damaged by floods, is being revived by the Centre.
He expressed gratitude to the Central leadership for their commitment to Ferozepur’s development and reiterated that most developmental work in Punjab is currently funded through central government grants.
