Patna/Amritsar, July 6, 2025 – A major rift has emerged between two prominent Sikh religious institutions after the Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib, Patna Sahib, officially rejected an order issued by Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the highest temporal seat of Sikhism.
The decision was made during an emergency meeting of the Patna Sahib Gurdwara Management Committee, where senior members unanimously agreed that the directive from Sri Akal Takht Sahib amounted to interference in Patna Sahib’s internal traditions and historical rights.
A committee spokesperson stated, “Patna Sahib holds its own distinct legacy within Sikh history. The order from Sri Akal Takht Sahib undermines our authority and disregards our unique customs.”
While the specifics of the disputed order have not been publicly detailed, insiders say the directive involved administrative or ceremonial practices that Patna Sahib considers integral to its identity.
The rejection has sparked concern among the Sikh community, with religious scholars and devotees calling for dialogue and unity. Tensions remain high, as both institutions hold significant spiritual and historical importance in Sikhism.Sri Akal Takht Sahib has yet to issue an official response.
