Kapurthala (Punjab), July 6, 2025 – In a heart-wrenching incident, Amandeep Singh, the son of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), was found dead on a roadside near Mushkeved village just two days after returning home from Italy. The tragic discovery has sent shockwaves through the local community.
The body was spotted early in the morning by passers-by on the road leading from Mushkeved to Danwind and was immediately reported to the police. SHO Kirpal Singh from Kotwali police station confirmed that the body was recovered and sent to the civil hospital mortuary.
The deceased was identified by his father, ASI Narinder Singh Bains, who is currently serving in the security unit of the district court complex. The young man’s mother, Sarabjit Kaur, is the elected Sarpanch of Danwind village.
According to the ASI, his son had not returned home the previous night, prompting the family to search for him throughout the night. Devastated by the loss, the father suspects that his son may have died due to a drug overdose.
"I have repeatedly informed the police about the open sale of drugs in our village, but no action was taken," said ASI Bains, alleging negligence by local authorities.
The incident has reignited concerns over drug abuse in rural Punjab, a crisis that continues to claim young lives despite public outcry. Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
Authorities have yet to confirm the exact cause of death, pending the post-mortem report. Meanwhile, the family and villagers demand swift action against drug peddlers operating in the area.
