New Delhi, July 6, 2025 – Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has written to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, urging a temporary suspension of the ban on End-of-Life vehicles in the national capital.
Saxena highlighted the emotional and financial burden the restrictions place on the middle class and called for a review of the Supreme Court’s 2018 order that underpins the policy.
In his letter, the LG stressed that Delhi is not yet fully prepared to implement such stringent restrictions and emphasized the need for more practical alternatives and public support mechanisms before enforcing the ban.
The End-of-Life policy currently prohibits petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years from operating within Delhi. While aimed at reducing pollution, the ban has sparked growing concern among vehicle owners.
Saxena’s appeal reflects increasing public pressure and adds to the ongoing debate about balancing environmental concerns with social and economic realities.
