Heavy rain alert issued for several Punjab districts

Chandigarh, July 6, 2025 – The India Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for several districts of Punjab, warning residents to stay cautious as monsoon activity picks up again in the region.
According to the weather centre, heavy rainfall is expected today (Sunday) in the districts of Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Mohali, and Fatehgarh Sahib. An orange alert has been issued for these areas, with rainfall likely to exceed 12 mm.Meanwhile, a yellow alert is in place for other parts of the state, where approximately 7 mm of rain is expected.
The renewed monsoon spell began last night with showers reported in Ludhiana, Patiala, and Fatehgarh Sahib. Amritsar and Rupnagar also received rain, leading to a slight dip in temperatures across affected regions.
Additionally, a flash alert has been issued until 9:30 AM for Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Pathankot.
Light showers have already started in Amritsar and surrounding areas early this morning. Residents are advised to remain alert, especially in low-lying regions prone to waterlogging.
