Chandigarh, August 2, 2025: The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh has slapped a fine of ₹5,000 on Punjab and Sind Bank, Sector 17-B, for violating Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules by illegally dumping construction and demolition (C&D) waste outside its premises without prior permission.
Despite repeated notices and verbal reminders, the bank failed to remove the debris, prompting the civic body to act under Rule 4 of the SWM Rules. The unattended waste created a public nuisance and marred the city's aesthetics.
MC Commissioner Amit Kumar, IAS, issued a stern warning, stating that no institution is above the law when it comes to maintaining public hygiene. “Chandigarh’s cleanliness and beautification cannot be compromised. Strict penalties will be enforced against any violators,” he said.
He urged citizens and institutions alike to comply with SWM rules, adding that the MCC will continue citywide monitoring to ensure high sanitation standards are maintained.
