Hoshiarpur (Punjab), August 6, 2025: Following the opening of Pong Dam floodgates by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), Hoshiarpur Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain reassured the public that there is no cause for alarm.
A total of 11,500 cusecs each has been released into the Mukerian Hydel Canal and Beas River — a routine monsoon activity, not indicative of any flood situation.
The administration is in continuous contact with BBMB and is monitoring water levels closely. Precautionary alerts have been issued in Dasuha and Mukerian, with SDMs directed to stay vigilant in historically vulnerable areas.
DC Jain emphasized that all emergency protocols are in place — from health and rescue to food supply. Departments have been instructed to remain on high alert.
Appealing to the public, she said, “Trust the administration and refrain from spreading or believing rumours.”
