Backward Classes Commission to launch village-level camps for welfare schemes
Ferozepur, November 15, 2025: Punjab State Backward Classes Commission Chairman, Malkit Singh Thind, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to bringing all eligible castes under the ambit of state welfare schemes. He made these remarks during an interaction with a four-member delegation of the Minority Welfare Organisation comprising Satnam Singh Gill, Sandeep Singh, Amritpal Singh Kalyan and Rajwinder Singh Jodhe.
During the courtesy meeting, organisation president Satnam Singh Gill urged the Chairman to facilitate the outreach of welfare schemes across all 197 blocks of the state. He proposed forming non-governmental but socially driven support teams at the block and district levels to help the Commission extend its services to the intended beneficiaries. Several issues related to alleged police excesses were also discussed.
Sharing details of the suggestions received, Chairman Thind said he is already working at the district level to ensure effective delivery of government schemes to the needy. “The suggestions given can help in correct identification of eligible beneficiaries, and social volunteers can play an important role in supporting Commission members,” he said.
Thind added that his priority is to organise awareness camps through village-level bodies to spread information about welfare schemes and various bank-related benefits. “Many banks also offer welfare-oriented schemes, but due to lack of awareness, people fail to utilise these services,” he noted.
He further stated that complaints related to police excesses, family disputes and other issues would be taken up with the Punjab DGP to evolve a workable policy and mutual understanding. Thind also appealed to people belonging to backward classes to approach Tehsil Welfare Officers and apply for the schemes meant for their welfare.
Minority Welfare Organisation Chairman Sandeep Singh Raju, PRO Amritpal Singh Kalyan and State Secretary Rajwinder Singh Jodhe were present on the occasion.
