New Delhi, November 15, 2025: The State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest lender, has announced a major change in its digital banking services. The bank will discontinue the mCash facility on its OnlineSBI and YONO Lite platforms after November 30, 2025, impacting users who relied on sending money using only mobile numbers or email IDs.
What Was mCash? Why Is It Being Discontinued?
mCash allowed SBI’s internet banking customers to transfer money without adding a beneficiary. Users simply entered the recipient’s mobile number or email, after which the receiver would get a secure link and an 8-digit passcode to claim the funds into any bank account.
SBI has now decided to phase out this service to streamline digital payments and strengthen security.
What Changes from December 1?
Starting December 1, 2025, customers will no longer be able to send or claim money via mCash. SBI has advised users to switch to secure and widely used payment modes such as UPI, IMPS, NEFT, and RTGS.
What Are the Alternatives for mCash Users?
Users can seamlessly shift to UPI, which offers instant fund transfers.
Steps to send money via UPI:
- Open BHIM SBI Pay or any other UPI app.
- Tap on the ‘Pay’ option.
- Choose to pay via UPI ID (VPA), Account + IFSC, or QR code.
- Enter the required details, select your debit account, and authenticate using your UPI PIN.
