He cautioned the forces won't get it merged with others, not to take Sikhs granted

Amritsar (Punjab), December 8, 2025: In a strong and uncompromising message delivered from Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj on Monday reaffirmed that Sikhs possess a distinct identity that cannot be erased, altered, or absorbed into any other community.
Speaking in a sharp and stern tone, the Jathedar cautioned individuals “sitting in high positions” as well as those who claim to represent Sikhism to remain vigilant and refrain from making or endorsing statements that dilute the Sikh identity.
Without naming anyone, Giani Kuldeep Singh directly warned elements within the RSS, BJP leadership, and other forces that attempt to assimilate Sikhs or merge Sikh philosophy with other belief systems. He said such efforts are neither new nor acceptable and will be confronted firmly.
He reminded the congregation that similar attempts were made 100 years ago, even before the writings of Saktaart Prakash, to blur the unique identity of Sikhs — but none succeeded.
“From the very moment of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s advent, the foundations of a distinct Sikh faith and identity were laid,” he said.
The Jathedar raised these concerns while pronouncing the decision related to Dr. Karamjit Singh, Vice Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, who had appeared before the Takht to apologize for remarks linking the Rig Veda with the philosophy of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Reasserting Sikh sovereignty over their own belief system, he said that throughout history — whether in the 1870s, 150 years ago, or today — various forces have tried to absorb Sikh identity into their own frameworks.
“But they must remember one thing clearly,” he said.
“Our dispute is not with any Pandit or Mullah. Those who wrote such ideas have long left, and we did not take anything from them. We are neither Hindu nor Muslim. The Sikh Panth is, and will always remain, distinct.”
