CEC–CGC Landran hosts grand finale of Smart India Hackathon 2025
Over 200 Students Compete in 36-Hour Coding Challenge

Ludhiana (Punjab), December 8, 2025: The grand finale of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2025 – Software Edition – was inaugurated today at the Nodal Center of Chandigarh Engineering College, Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CEC-CGC) Landran.
A total of 25 teams comprising more than 200 students and mentors from states including Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, New Delhi, and Gujarat have converged here to compete for innovative problem-solving.
SIH 2025, a flagship event of the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell, AICTE, and partner organizations, is being held nationwide on December 8–9, 2025, across 60 nodal centers. This year, organizers received 271 problem statements from various government departments, with 1,360 student teams shortlisted for the final round—where they will code continuously for 36 hours on themes such as Space Technology, Agriculture, Tourism, Smart Education, Disaster Management, Robotics and Drones, and Heritage & Culture.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address and interact with participants virtually this evening.
The event at the Landran nodal center was inaugurated by Dr. Y.P.S. Berwal, Director, Directorate of Technical Education, Haryana, who attended as the Chief Guest. He was joined by Mr. Brahm Alreja, Vice President, TiE Chandigarh, as Guest of Honour, along with Dr. Rajdeep Singh, Campus Director, CGC Landran, Mr. Ajinkya Chavan, SIH Nodal Center Head, AICTE, Dr. Sushil Kamboj, SPOC, and senior faculty members.
The central national-level inauguration was conducted virtually by AICTE Chairman Prof. (Dr.) T.G. Sitharam and Vice Chairman Dr. Abhay Jere.
The 25 teams competing at CEC–CGC Landran have been given five key problem statements by the Department of Higher Education, Government of Punjab, including:
- Disaster Preparedness and Response Education System for Schools and Colleges
- Gamified Environmental Education Platform
- Smart Crop Advisory System for Small and Marginal Farmers
- Smart Curriculum Activity and Attendance App
- Automated Attendance System for Rural Schools
Aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision of youth-led development, SIH provides a nationwide platform for students to solve real-world challenges faced by government bodies, ministries, industries, and organizations.
Recognized as the world’s largest open innovation model, SIH has been held annually since 2017 in both Software and Hardware editions, promoting a culture of creativity, product innovation, and solution-driven thinking among India’s youth.
