Visually Impaired graduate from Ferozepur backs ECI's SIR - Special Intensive Revision
Ferozepur, December 12, 2025: A visually impaired graduate from the Home for the Blind in Ferozepur has strongly supported the Election Commission of India's (ECI) ongoing voter list cleansing drive, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
The SIR, or Special Intensive Revision, is a national-level exercise initiated by the ECI with the dual objective of ensuring that every eligible Indian citizen is included in the Electoral Roll (ER) and, crucially, that no ineligible voter is registered. This intensive scrutiny is intended to curb the "menace of illegal voting" by eliminating illegal/ineligible voters, including those suspected to be foreign nationals, while simultaneously registering all newly eligible voters.
Vishnu, a resident of the Home for the Blind in Ferozepur, Punjab, passionately defended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, dismissing criticism as mere political posturing. Addressing the concern that democracy is weakened when people stop raising their voice, Vishnu stated that while the Constitution grants the right to speak on public interest issues, the focus should strictly remain on national benefit. He highlighted the issue of non-citizens, including alleged residents of Bangladesh, who have "settled in India and enjoyed the voting" right illegally.
"It is not a mistake to scrutinize the voters lists," he asserted, adding that those who are speaking against the SIR are simply "playing politics and baking their vested interests." In a direct message to the public, Vishnu urged every citizen to "do his duty responsibly in the interest of the nation," and not do "anything which is not in the interest of the nation." He concluded with a powerful call: "Everyone should become a patriotic."
