Khanna (Punjab), December 28, 2025: A tragic road accident occurred on Sunday morning near village Ajnod in Khanna after dense fog led to a chain collision involving several vehicles on the canal road connecting Doraha and Ludhiana. One person lost his life on the spot, while at least five others sustained serious injuries.
According to initial reports, visibility in the area was extremely poor due to thick fog. A truck carrying domestic LPG cylinders was moving along the canal road when a car suddenly appeared in front of it near village Ajnod. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the truck driver applied sudden brakes, causing several gas cylinders to fall onto the road.
Vehicles following behind tried to stop, but a heavy cement-laden truck failed to brake in time and rammed into the vehicles ahead. Within moments, multiple vehicles collided, leading to chaos at the site and a complete blockage of the road.
The incident had the potential to turn into a major disaster, as the truck was transporting domestic gas cylinders. Fortunately, no explosion occurred. Eyewitnesses said one gas cylinder got stuck beneath a vehicle, creating panic among commuters.
Police sources said the deceased was reportedly attempting to remove a gas cylinder trapped under a vehicle when the fatal accident occurred.
Upon receiving information, the Road Safety Force rushed to the spot. Sub-Inspector Sukhdev Singh, along with his team, immediately initiated rescue and relief operations. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital by ambulance, where they are undergoing treatment. Traffic was later brought under control, and an investigation into the incident is underway.
