Chandigarh, December 29, 2025: Ashwani Sharma, Working President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Punjab, accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab of misusing government machinery to coerce MGNREGA workers into signing protest letters against the Central Government’s Viksit Bharat – Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural) Act, 2025 (VB–G RAM–G Act).
Sharma claimed that the state government is misleading workers through village-level officials to falsely project opposition to the new law, despite it offering 125 days of employment and unemployment allowance provisions—an increase from the existing 100 days under MGNREGA.
He questioned why Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is silent on corruption and delays under MGNREGA over the past three years, including the state’s failure to provide 100 days of employment and pay unemployment allowances on time.
Sharma further alleged that mandatory social audits were not conducted in 6,095 Gram Panchayats in 2024–25 and 7,389 Gram Panchayats in 2025–26, and that 3,986 corruption cases detected by the Special Audit Unit have not resulted in any Action Taken Report, indicating protection of corrupt officials.
He also highlighted recovery orders worth ₹2.35 crore issued by the Lokpal/Ombudsperson that remain unimplemented, raising questions about the state government’s intent and efficiency.
“Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann are creating an atmosphere of rebellion against the Central Government, despite the law clearly being in the workers’ interest,” Sharma said.
Sharma added that Congress leaders, including Rahul and Sonia Gandhi, have acknowledged persistent corruption in MGNREGA/NREGA, questioning why the Congress is now creating an uproar when the central and state governments have failed to curb irregularities.
