Bathinda (Punjab), January 10, 2026:Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday announced a major ₹90 crore infrastructure initiative for Bathinda, dedicating the reconstructed Multania Railway Over Bridge (ROB) and approving the construction of a new Janta Nagar ROB, aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity across the city.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Multania ROB, CM Mann said Bathinda, being a key railway junction, has multiple railway lines dividing the city, making bridges crucial for smooth connectivity. “The old Multania Bridge, nearly 35 years old, had a narrow 23-foot carriageway and was insufficient for modern traffic. Frequent potholes during monsoons caused serious inconvenience to school vans, traders, ambulances, and heavy vehicles,” he said.
The new Multania ROB, built at a cost of ₹38.08 crore, now spans over one kilometre with a 34.5-foot-wide carriageway. CM Mann announced that the area beneath the bridge will be developed into a sports and recreational hub with a walking track, box cricket, skating area, basketball court, gym, and other facilities. The project, which began on September 11, 2023, has been completed on schedule.
Addressing another traffic concern, CM Mann announced the construction of a Janta Nagar ROB over the Bathinda-Firozepur railway line at a cost of ₹50.86 crore. The proposed 650-metre-long bridge will have a 31-foot carriageway and widened service roads, resolving long-standing congestion, waterlogging, and safety issues for commuters in the area. The tender process has already begun, and construction will start shortly.
CM Mann highlighted that these projects reflect the government’s broader development vision for Bathinda and the state. “This region is being developed as a major growth hub. While upgrading infrastructure, we are also enhancing educational facilities and teacher skills. Our government is fully committed to the well-being of Punjab, and all decisions are taken after consultation with the people and stakeholders,” he said.
The inauguration was attended by local residents, officials, and stakeholders, marking a significant step in improving urban mobility and public amenities in Bathinda.
