Chandigarh, January 21, 2026: Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur of Panj Aab Lawyers has demanded that Centre government and Punjab Government should apply same rule to all UAPA detainees which has been applied in case of Jaggu Bhagwanpuria.
In a video message he said that he saw first case in life where the government has not recommended for prosecution under UAPA of Jaggu Bhagwanpuria on the ground that “there is no other evidence except his confession before the police, which is hit by section 25 of the Indian Evidence Act, not being admissible in eyes of law.”
He said that most of cases under UAPA are based on so called confessions of persons and they are in jails since long especially cases of Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal are only based on his so called confession before police.
He said that hundreds of youth are languishing in jails due to indifferent attitude of the governments. He said that it was responsibility of Punjab Home Department and Union Home Ministry to apply same rule to all the detainees under UAPA so that they could come out of Jails.
