Railway Hospital demonstrates success of knee replacement with unique 50-meter sprint
Ferozepur, January 30, 2026: In a remarkable display of medical success and physical resilience, the Railway Hospital organized a 50-meter race for railway employees who have successfully undergone knee replacement surgeries. The event was held at the Railway Stadium, to commemorate Republic Day 2026.
The initiative was conducted under the visionary guidance of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Sanjiv Kumar and the leadership of Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) Dr. Ranjana Sehgal.
The primary objective of the competition was to send a powerful message to patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis: that knee replacement surgery is a highly effective and successful treatment. By sprinting across the track, the participants proved that modern medical technology not only allows patients to return to a normal lifestyle but also enables them to actively participate in sports.
The event highlighted the expertise of Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Amit Shersia, who has successfully performed 40 complex knee replacement surgeries at the Divisional Hospital. While these procedures are considered highly intricate, Dr. Shersia’s use of advanced techniques and specialized care has ensured a 100% success rate for these patients.
The competition concluded successfully with a prize distribution ceremony. Winners who secured the first, second, and third positions were honoured for their spirit and recovery. The event served as a beacon of hope for many other employees currently battling joint-related ailments.
Senior railway officials and medical staff from the Ferozepur division were present to cheer on the participants, lauding the hospital's efforts in combining healthcare with motivational activities.
