GRP Haryana busts major drug racket, 55 kg ganja seized at Ambala Cantt

Chandigarh, February 26, 2026: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Government Railway Police Haryana (GRP) Haryana seized 55 kg 670 grams of ganja during a special checking drive at Ambala Cantonment Railway Station and arrested two women drug peddlers from Bihar.
The accused have been identified as Makhni Devi and Anjana Kumari, residents of Katihar district in Bihar. The recovered contraband falls under the category of commercial quantity under the NDPS Act.
Haryana Director General of Police Ajay Singhal reiterated the state’s zero-tolerance policy against drug traffickers, stating that coordinated and continuous action is being taken to dismantle drug networks and safeguard youth from the menace. He commended the GRP team for their alertness and professionalism.
According to GRP Superintendent of Police Nitika Gehlot, the operation was carried out under a special checking campaign led by Inspector Sanjay Kumar at Ambala Cantt station. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the police team noticed suspicious movement of the two women. Upon searching three large bags and one backpack in their possession, officers recovered the ganja in accordance with due legal procedure.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at GRP Police Station Ambala Cantonment. The accused were produced before a court and remanded to six days of police custody.
During preliminary interrogation, one of the accused revealed that the consignment had been brought from Gorakhpur and was being transported to Dhanas in Chandigarh. The GRP has launched a detailed investigation to trace backward and forward linkages to identify the main supplier and other individuals involved in the illegal network. Officials have affirmed that strict action will continue and intensified search operations at railway premises will be carried out to curb drug trafficking.
