CGC University, Mohali hosts 9th Annual Sports Meet 2026 with high-octane performances

Mohali (Punjab), February 28, 2026: The campus of CGC University, Mohali came alive with electrifying energy and spirited competition as it hosted the 9th Annual Sports Meet 2026 — a three-day celebration of athleticism, unity, and youthful dynamism.
Organized by the School of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, the grand sporting spectacle witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across departments, transforming the university grounds into an arena of grit, glory, and camaraderie.
The event commenced with a vibrant march past and resounding cheers from students and faculty, setting the stage for a weekend marked by determination and sportsmanship. The atmosphere throughout the campus reflected a collective celebration of teamwork and healthy competition.
The sports meet was graced by eminent personalities from the world of sports and administration.
Among the distinguished Chief Guests was S. Jiwanjot Singh Teja, Dronacharya Awardee and Coach of the Indian Archery Team, currently serving as Director (Training and Curriculum), Punjab. His presence served as a powerful inspiration for budding athletes to pursue excellence with discipline and dedication.
Also attending the event was Mr. Vineet Kumar, Deputy Director General and Senior Executive Director at Sports Authority of India NSNIS Patiala, whose motivational address emphasized the importance of ethics, perseverance, and vision in shaping the future of Indian athletics.
Adding further pride to the occasion was Mr. Sarpreet Singh, Sub Inspector with Punjab Police and a National Cycling Champion, whose journey as both a decorated athlete and a law enforcement officer stood as a testament to resilience and balance.
The meet featured an extensive lineup of track and field events, including the 100m, 200m, and 400m races, 4x100m Relay, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, and Javelin Throw. Standout performances were delivered by Reitumetse Andrew, Khusboo, Rachit Rana, and Dorina, who demonstrated exceptional competitive spirit across categories.
Mukul was adjudged Best Athlete (M), while Mehul Bisht earned the title of Best Athlete (W). The prestigious Best Sports Person of the Year 2025–26 awards were conferred upon Lakshay Zindal (M) and Jagriti Tiwari (W) in recognition of their consistent dedication and sporting excellence.
A highlight of the meet was the relay segment, where four-member teams displayed remarkable coordination and strategy. The mixed relay events drew particular acclaim for their nail-biting finishes and spirited teamwork, earning thunderous applause from spectators.
