Giani Raghbir Singh slams Badal faction, says party is “ideologically dead”

Amritsar (Punjab), March 3, 2026: Amid ongoing political turmoil within the Shiromani Akali Dal, former Head Granthi Giani Raghbir Singh launched a sharp attack on the Badal-led faction while addressing a gathering from the stage of ‘Akali Dal Punar Surjeet’.
Speaking at the political event, he raised serious questions over the policies of the Badal family and the apology that was earlier tendered at Akal Takht Sahib.
He alleged that the public admission of mistakes before the Akal Takht was merely symbolic and lacked sincerity.
Giani Raghbir Singh stated that although the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) had confessed its “mistakes” before the Akal Takht Sahib, the stance appeared to change outside.
He claimed that members of the Badal family later suggested that the admission of guilt was made casually, which, according to him, exposed the political nature of the apology. He further alleged that the move was driven by compulsion rather than genuine remorse.
Commenting on the current state of the party, he remarked that the Shiromani Akali Dal, which was once expected to safeguard Panthic principles, is now “ideologically dead.” He accused the Badal faction of turning away from traditional values and promoting family-centric politics instead.
