Phagotsav–Sanskrit Yatra showcases India’s cultural diversity
Ferozepur, March 9, 2026: Showcasing India’s rich and diverse cultural heritage, the “Phagotsav–Sanskrit Yatra”, organised by the North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The colourful cultural programme was held on the concluding day of the “Sakhi Shakti Mela” near Sheetla Mata Temple at the Mela Ground in Ferozepur Cantonment with the support of the district administration, marking the occasion of International Women’s Day.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Krishna Pal Rajput, who attended the event as the chief guest, welcomed the officials and artists of the North Zone Cultural Centre. He said such cultural journeys strengthen the message of unity in diversity and help connect people with the country’s rich cultural traditions. He added that witnessing folk dances and traditional art forms from various states on a single platform is a unique and memorable experience for the audience.
Under the leadership of Deputy Director Jarnail Singh, artists from different states presented vibrant cultural performances that captivated the audience. The performances included Punjab’s energetic Bhangra, the graceful Rouf and Bachanagma dances from Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana’s traditional Ghoomar and Phag, Himachal Pradesh’s popular Sirmauri Nati, Uttar Pradesh’s Mayur dance and Barsana Holi, Gujarat’s Garba and Dandiya, and the Purulia Chhau folk dance from Jharkhand. Each performance reflected the distinct culture, traditions and lifestyle of its region, making the programme colourful and memorable.
A large number of spectators attended the event and thoroughly enjoyed the performances, applauding the artists for their captivating presentations. Towards the end of the programme, Punjabi folk singer Aman Rozi mesmerized the audience with her melodious voice and lively folk songs. Her traditional Punjabi numbers had the audience swaying to the rhythm, presenting a vibrant glimpse of Punjabi culture.
The cultural yatra is not only promoting the folk traditions of different states but also playing an important role in strengthening the shared cultural heritage of the country.
The programme was compered by Sanjeev Shaad and Ravinder Singh. Among others present on the occasion were Deep Singh Gill, General Manager Industries Department; Sukhraj Singh Virk, FM; Deputy District Education Officer Dr. Satinder Singh (National Awardee); LDM Geeta Mehta; Dr. Abhishek Arora; Amarinder Singh Rana; Gurnam Singh Sidhu; Harinder Bhullar; Harish Goel; Ashok Gupta; Sarabjit Singh Bhawra and a large number of art lovers and city residents.
