Memorial Committee demands action over alleged disrespect near Udham Singh statue after T20 victory celebrations
Ferozepur, March 9, 2026: Members of the Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial Committee have demanded strict action against unidentified youths for allegedly showing disrespect to the statue of martyr Udham Singh in the city.
Submitting a memorandum to the police, the committee members said that the statue, which was installed in the city area through the efforts of the committee, was allegedly disrespected late Sunday night following celebrations after India defeated New Zealand in the T-20 World Cup final.
Bhagwan Singh, president of the Memorial Committee, stated that a group of youths gathered near the statue and created a ruckus during the celebrations. He alleged that some individuals went close to the statue and behaved in a manner that amounted to insulting the martyr’s memorial.
He further said that videos of the incident later surfaced on social media and quickly went viral, hurting the sentiments of people who hold the martyr in high regard.
Bhagwan Singh added that while citizens have every right to celebrate the victory of the Indian team, they should also remember the sacrifices made by the country’s martyrs and maintain respect for their memorials.
Meanwhile, DSP Sukhwinder Singh said that the matter has been brought to the notice of the police and appropriate action will be taken against those found responsible.
