Chamba (Himachal Pradesh), March 18, 2026: Traffic on the Chamba–Tissa main road in Chamba was disrupted for nearly three hours on Tuesday after a landslide near Sarela Nala brought vehicular movement to a complete halt.
According to reports, loose soil and debris slid onto the road following rainfall, creating slushy and unsafe conditions that stranded vehicles on both sides. Long queues were seen as commuters waited for clearance.
On receiving information, teams from the Public Works Department rushed to the spot with machinery and labour. After nearly three hours of intensive efforts, the road was cleared and restored for traffic around noon, providing relief to stranded passengers.
Locals said the Sarela Nala stretch remains highly vulnerable, with frequent landslides and marshy terrain making travel risky, especially during bad weather and at night. Bus drivers were reportedly forced to drop passengers on either side and navigate the muddy patch cautiously.
Residents, including Yograj, Amit Kumar, Harish Kumar, Kesar Chand, Dalipa Ram, and Hakam Chand, said the blockage occurred around 9 am, leading to a traffic standstill until about 12 pm.
They also pointed out that such incidents are recurring, recalling that two buses had previously got stuck at the same spot, including a private bus last week.
Meanwhile, Public Works Department Executive Engineer Joginder Sharma said that permanent measures will be taken once weather conditions improve to ensure safer travel on the route.
