Varsha Sinha, Secretary OIDB pays tribute to martyrs at Hussainiwala Memorial
Ferozepur, April 9, 2026: Senior IAS officer Ms. Varsha Sinha, Secretary, Oil Industry Development Board (OIDB) under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, visited the historic Hussainiwala Memorial in Ferozepur today to pay homage to the martyrs.
She was accompanied by District Education Officer (Sec.) Munila Arora, Naib Tehsildar-cum-Duty Magistrate Ramesh Dhingra, National Awardee Dr. Satinder Singh (Deputy DEO-cum-Liaison Officer), and DSP Headquarters Bitan Kumar. The visiting dignitary was warmly welcomed by district officials on her arrival.

Dr. Satinder Singh briefed the delegation about the historical significance of Hussainiwala, stating that it is closely associated with India’s freedom struggle. He highlighted that the last rites of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev were performed here on March 23, 1931, making it a symbol of patriotism. Every year, thousands of people visit the site to pay homage and remember the sacrifices of the martyrs.
He further noted that Hussainiwala, located along the Indo-Pak border, holds both historical and strategic importance, and the daily retreat ceremony at the border instills a strong sense of patriotism among visitors.
Addressing the gathering, Ms. Sinha described her visit as deeply inspiring. She said that the sacrifices of the martyrs are invaluable and have enabled the nation to enjoy freedom today. She emphasized that such places remind us of our duty towards the nation and inspire the younger generation to serve the country.
She added that it is the collective responsibility of citizens to remember the sacrifices of the martyrs and contribute towards the unity and progress of the nation.
Other officials and attendees also paid their respects and echoed the message of patriotism.
The visit proved to be a proud moment for Ferozepur, further strengthening the spirit of national pride and dedication among the youth.
