Ferozepur, April 15, 2026: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh, while addressing a press conference today, revealed significant breakthroughs by Ferozepur Police in busting a cross-border drug smuggling network linked to Pakistan-based smuggler Shehzad Bhatti.
The SSP stated that during the investigation of a recent case, backward linkages led to the identification of Shehzad Bhatti, who had been sending narcotics consignments into Punjab via drones. Acting on intelligence, police successfully recovered 540 grams of heroin, one drone, and a mobile phone that had been smuggled across the border.
In this connection, two accused—Karamjit Singh Kori, a resident of village Bhakhra, and Sona Singh alias Sonu of village Chandiwala—have been arrested.
highlighting the intensified anti-drug campaign launched under the directions of the Punjab Government, SSP Bhupinder Singh said that in the past 15 to 25 days, Ferozepur Police has achieved major success. A total of 15 major smugglers and suppliers have been arrested in 10 cases and recovered 21 kg 343 grams of heroin, 521 grams of ICE, and 1 kg of opium. Additionally, 7 mobile phones, 34 SIM cards, 3 motorcycles, 1 pistol, 2 live cartridges, and 2 drones were seized.
Under the anti-gangster drive, police registered 7 cases and arrested 8 criminals, recovering 7 pistols, 11 magazines, and 26 live cartridges.
The SSP further informed that in a separate case (FIR No. 127, Police Station Sadar), a woman identified as Swaran Kaur, wife of Hardev Singh and resident of village Halanki Lacha (Mamdot), was arrested. Two pistols, six magazines, and 23 live cartridges were recovered from her possession. Her son Gurvinder Singh is already in jail in connection with a previous recovery of approximately 6 kg heroin and four pistols.
Police also recovered stolen property including 13 motorcycles, 16 mobile phones, and batteries, indicating a crackdown on theft-related crimes as well.
SSP Bhupinder Singh emphasized that all recovered SIM cards are being technically analyzed, and several cases have shown clear links to Pakistan-based handlers. He added that further investigations are underway, and more disclosures are expected as police continue to trace forward and backward linkages.
He praised the efforts of CIA Ferozepur, CIA Zira, and other police teams for their coordinated and vigilant action in achieving these results.
