New Delhi, April 24, 2026 : In a major political development that could significantly alter the composition of Parliament, seven Members of Parliament from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have resigned from the party.
The announcement was made at a press conference led by Raghav Chadha, who was accompanied by fellow MPs Sandeep Dikshit and Ashok Mittal.
According to Chadha, the group of seven includes former cricketer Harbhajan Singh, entrepreneur Vikramjit Singh Sahney, industrialist Rajinder Gupta, and former Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal, along with others.
Chadha stated that all seven MPs have formally resigned from AAP and submitted written communication to the concerned parliamentary authorities confirming their decision.
He further claimed that the group represents more than two-thirds of AAP’s strength in the Rajya Sabha and therefore qualifies for a formal merger with the BJP parliamentary faction under constitutional provisions, without attracting disqualification under anti-defection rules.
