Chandigarh, April 24, 2026: Reacting strongly to reports that two-thirds of Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MPs have announced a merger with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched a sharp attack on the leaders involved, questioning their political intent and credibility.
Addressing the development, Mann said the MPs who have decided to join the BJP do not represent Punjab’s mandate.
"...BJP has betrayed Punjab...The same washing machine was used at the party of Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress...BJP has no base in Punjab.
“The seven MPs who are joining the BJP don't represent Punjab, they are traitors,” Mann said. He further alleged that the BJP has repeatedly used political strategies to weaken rival parties across the country.
“BJP has betrayed Punjab. The same washing machine was used at the party of Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress. BJP has no base in Punjab,” he added.
