Chandigarh, April 24, 2026 : After seven Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MPs announced their move to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh launched a sharp counterattack, calling it a “betrayal of Punjab” and accusing the BJP of engineering a political operation to destabilise the party.
Addressing an emergency press conference, Sanjay Singh said the developments were not a voluntary political decision but the result of a coordinated strategy.
“This is not a voluntary merger, it is an ‘Operation Lotus’ being run under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah. The BJP has broken our members through pressure and inducements,” Singh alleged.
He further claimed that the MPs who switched sides had betrayed the mandate of Punjab.
“The seven MPs have stabbed Punjab in the back. The people of Punjab will never forgive them. History will remember them as traitors,” he said.
Singh also alleged that the BJP is attempting to weaken AAP due to its governance performance in Punjab under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
“BJP is alarmed by the pro-people work being done by the Punjab government. Unable to win elections directly, they are now trying to dismantle elected mandates by poaching representatives,” he added.
