Amritsar (Punjab), May 8, 2026: Sri Akal Takht Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gargaj on Friday launched a sharp attack on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over the “Shukrana Yatras” being carried out across the state following the passage of the sacrilege law.
Addressing a press conference, the Jathedar questioned the legitimacy of the Chief Minister’s thanksgiving tours, saying that such campaigns were against Sikh religious maryada (traditions and code of conduct).
He said that when the Sikh Panth itself has not accepted the sacrilege law, the Chief Minister has no basis to undertake “Shukrana Yatras” across Punjab in its support.
“CM Bhagwant Mann’s tours are not Shukrana Yatras, they are ‘Hankaar Yatras’ (arrogance tours),” Jathedar Gargaaj said, alleging that the Chief Minister was openly challenging Sri Akal Takht Sahib and spreading “false propaganda” in Punjab.
The Jathedar further alleged that the Chief Minister, through these political campaigns, was creating confusion and divisions among Sikhs. He asserted that the government has no right to interfere in Panthic matters and maintained that the Sikh community would not accept any law that goes against Sikh interests.
