Chandigarh, May 11, 2026: Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Monday demanded an Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation against Ashok Kumar Pappi Prashar, alleging large-scale corruption and money laundering through the bank account of his personal assistant.
Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Bikram Majithia alleged that Ludhiana Central MLA Pappi Prashar used his former personal assistant Nikhil Sabharwal as a front to collect money from individuals seeking contractual jobs in the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation.
According to Majithia, around Rs 1.10 crore was allegedly collected from 87 persons promised contractual appointments and 39 candidates allegedly seeking clerk-level jobs. He further alleged that forged selection lists were prepared to convince the applicants that they had been selected.
The SAD leader also accused the MLA of routing financial transactions through his PA’s bank account. He alleged that on March 8, 2024, Rs 90 lakh was deposited into Nikhil Sabharwal’s account by a person based in Canada, after which portions of the amount were allegedly transferred to the account of the MLA’s wife, Meenu Prashar.
Majithia further alleged that on April 24, 2024, a Ludhiana building inspector, Harminder Singh Makkar, deposited Rs 30 lakh into the same account, following which part of the money was allegedly transferred to the MLA and his family members.
He also claimed that the MLA had recommended cancellation of the transfer order of Harminder Singh Makkar from Ludhiana to Jalandhar and presented documents during the press conference to support the allegation.
Majithia alleged that after he publicly raised the issue, a police case was registered against Nikhil Sabharwal. He demanded a probe by a central agency, claiming that a fair investigation would not be possible under the present state administration.
Speaking during the press conference, Nikhil Sabharwal claimed he worked as Pappi Prashar’s personal assistant from 2022 on a monthly salary of Rs 13,000 and alleged that he was asked to identify people interested in municipal jobs.
Sabharwal claimed that after the alleged job promises failed to materialise, applicants began pressuring him for refunds, forcing him to sell his house to repay part of the money. He further alleged that he had been threatened and assaulted and demanded that the investigation be handed over to an independent central agency.
