LIVE: Chandigarh hosts tribute ceremony for Historian Prof. Malwinderjit Singh Waraich

Chandigarh, May 23, 2026: A remembrance programme was held in Chandigarh on Friday to pay tribute to noted historian and educationist Prof. Malwinderjit Singh Waraich, remembered for his research on India’s freedom struggle and Ghadar movement. Scholars, writers and admirers gathered to honour his contribution to Punjabi history, education and revolutionary literature.

Historian of Jang E Azadi and former Professor of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College Ludhian Prof. Malwinderjit Singh Waraich breathed his last on May 9 at Saketari (Panchkula). He had celebrated his 96th birthday recently.

Prof. Malwinderjit Singh Waraich’s family had migrated from Laddewala Waraich (Gujranwala) since Independence. They first settled at Kapurthala and later setter permanently at Raver (Karnal).
Prof. Malwinderjit Singh Waraich taught at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College Ludhiana from 1960 to 1989. He taught students about Desh Bhagat Virsa Chetna, Constructive thinking, Sports culture, Self discipline and force of community working. He was a regular at sports fields or walking at Sukhna lake.
