Fuel price hike is anti-people, roll back the decision immediately: Rajinder Singh Badheri

SAS Nagar (Mohali), May 25, 2026: Prominent farmer leader Rajinder Singh Badheri has strongly criticised the repeated increase in petrol and diesel prices, terming the move “anti-people” and harmful for farmers, labourers, and common citizens.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Badheri, who is also the national delegate of the All India Jatt Maha Sabha and former Director of the Punjab Mandi Board, said diesel prices have been increased four times in recent days, while petrol prices have also witnessed repeated hikes.
He pointed out that international crude oil prices have declined, yet consumers in India have not received relief in fuel prices proportionate to the reduction. Calling the decision unjustified, he alleged that the burden of inflation is continuously being imposed on the common people.
Badheri said farmers and economically weaker sections, especially two-wheeler owners, are already struggling due to rising inflation and what he described as anti-farmer policies of the Central government. He added that increasing fuel prices further worsens the financial condition of farmers and labourers.
The farmer leader also raised concerns over the higher VAT rates on fuel in Punjab compared to neighbouring states. According to him, this has not only angered consumers but has also adversely affected petrol pump owners situated near border areas, as people prefer purchasing fuel from nearby states where rates are lower.
Demanding immediate intervention, Badheri urged the government to withdraw the hike in petroleum prices without delay to provide relief to the public.
