Gidderbaha/Sri Muktsar Sahib (Punjab), May 25, 2026 — Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has been issued an official show cause notice by the Returning Officer-cum-Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Gidderbaha, over alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct during the ongoing Municipal Council Elections 2026 in Punjab.
According to the notice, Raja Warring is accused of participating in election campaigning after the official campaigning deadline had ended.
As per Election Commission guidelines, all election campaigning, rallies, and public meetings are prohibited 48 hours before polling begins. For the Municipal Council Elections 2026, the restriction came into effect from 5 pm on May 24.
However, based on complaints received by the administration along with alleged video evidence, Raja Warring reportedly attended election gatherings in support of Congress candidates in Wards 16 and 17 of Gidderbaha after the deadline had expired.
The notice sought a written explanation from the Punjab Congress chief within the stipulated time. Authorities stated that failure to provide a satisfactory response could lead to further legal action and the matter may be referred to the Punjab State Election Commission for appropriate proceedings.
Copies of the notice have also been forwarded to the State Election Commission Punjab, the District Election Officer of Sri Muktsar Sahib, and the DSP Gidderbaha for necessary action and maintenance of law and order.
The development has triggered political discussions in the region ahead of the municipal polls.
