Dhuri (Punjab), June 7, 2026: Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government during a rally in Dhuri, alleging that the ruling party has pushed Punjab towards decline and asserting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would work to restore the state's past prosperity.
Addressing party workers and supporters, Dhillon claimed that Punjab has suffered under the AAP government and said the BJP was committed to transforming the state into a "golden bird" once again through development-oriented governance.
"The people who came to power with the broom symbol have ruined Punjab. The BJP will work to restore Punjab's glory and bring back governance inspired by the era of Maharaja Ranjit Singh," he said.
Invoking the legacy of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Dhillon said Punjab deserves a government that prioritises public welfare, strong administration and economic growth. He claimed that if Punjabis give sufficient political strength to the BJP, the state would witness governance comparable to the ideals of the historic Sarkar-e-Khalsa.
Drawing comparisons with neighbouring Haryana, Dhillon alleged that Haryana is progressing at nearly twice the pace of Punjab due to better governance and policy implementation. He argued that Punjab requires a change in leadership to regain its position as one of India's leading states.
The BJP leader also focused on farmers' concerns and the issue of water resources, stating that his party understands the challenges faced by Punjab's agrarian community.
"Punjab's soil and farmers' pain are well understood by the BJP. We will work towards a permanent solution to the state's water-related issues so that Punjab never faces a shortage of water," he said.
In a direct jibe at Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Dhillon said governance requires performance rather than rhetoric.
"I do not know how to tell jokes; I know how to work," he remarked, echoing recent BJP criticism of the Punjab Chief Minister.
Dhillon further claimed that internal surveys conducted by the AAP indicate growing dissatisfaction among voters in Dhuri, the constituency represented by Bhagwant Mann.
"Bhagwant Mann is losing support in Dhuri and will run away from the constituency in the 2027 Assembly elections," he alleged.
The remarks come amid intensifying political activity in Punjab as major parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. BJP leaders at the rally projected the party as an alternative to both the ruling AAP and the opposition Congress, while emphasising governance, infrastructure development, farmer welfare and employment as key issues for the state.
