Condolence meeting to honour Veteran Journalist Swaran Singh Bhangu on June 10

Ropar (Punjab), June 8, 2026: A Shradanjali Samaroh (condolence meeting) will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, to honour veteran journalist, educationist, and social activist Sardar Swaran Singh Bhangu, who passed away on June 4 at the age of 71.
The memorial gathering will bring together journalists, educators, social workers, and well-wishers to celebrate his lifelong contribution to grassroots journalism, rural education, and public service.
Swaran Singh Bhangu was widely respected for his fearless and people-centric journalism, particularly his long association with the Punjabi daily Ajit, where he served as in-charge of the Ropar sub-office. He also played a key role in education as Director of Kang Memorial Academy, Bassi Gujjran, working to uplift underprivileged and rural students.
He was the husband of noted Punjabi actress Gurpreet Kaur Bhangu, and was admired for his simplicity, integrity, and lifelong commitment to social causes.
In keeping with his values, his mortal remains were donated to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) for medical education and research.
