Amritsar (Punjab), June 15, 2026: A fresh political controversy erupted in Punjab after the Akal Takht made public forensic reports related to an alleged viral video purportedly involving Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Addressing a press conference, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj claimed that Sri Akal Takht Sahib had earlier written to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann seeking suggestions for forensic laboratories to examine the video.
However, according to the Jathedar, no laboratory names were suggested by the Chief Minister.
Gargaj said that Akal Takht subsequently got the video examined by two forensic agencies recognised by the Government of India. He claimed that both reports found the allegedly objectionable video to be authentic.
The development triggered a sharp response from the Aam Aadmi Party. Reacting to the claims, AAP leader Baltej Pannu questioned the basis of linking the person seen in the video to the Chief Minister.
"Even if one assumes that the video is genuine, where is it established that the person in the video is Bhagwant Mann? Neither the physical appearance nor other features clearly match the Chief Minister," Pannu said.
The AAP leader further asserted that the party would soon present facts to clarify the matter. He also accused the Akal Takht Jathedar of becoming part of active politics, alleging that the institution should remain above political affiliations.
Pannu claimed that the Sri Akal Takht belongs to the entire Sikh community and not to any particular political group. He also alleged that the Jathedar's appointment was influenced by Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal and accused him of publicly praising Badal on previous occasions.
