Breaking: Punjab State Election Commission announces poll schedule for four Urban Local Bodies; Voting on July 5

Chandigarh, June 20, 2026: The Punjab State Election Commission (SEC) has announced the schedule for general elections to four urban local bodies, including the Municipal Corporation of Hoshiarpur and three municipal councils and nagar panchayats in Ferozepur and Fazilka districts.
The elections will be held for:
- Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation
- Guru Har Sahai Municipal Council
- Jalalabad Municipal Council
- Mamdot Nagar Panchayat
According to the election programme released by the Commission, the nomination process will begin on June 22, 2026, and continue until June 25, 2026. Candidates will be able to file their nomination papers between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. before the designated Returning Officers.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on June 26, while candidates wishing to withdraw from the contest can do so until 3:00 p.m. on June 27.
Polling for all four civic bodies will take place on July 5, 2026 (Sunday) from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Voting will be conducted through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
In a move aimed at ensuring speedy declaration of results, the Commission said counting of votes will be held immediately after polling concludes and will take place at the respective polling stations.
The State Election Commission stated that all necessary logistical and administrative arrangements have been put in place to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
Meanwhile, with the formal announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into force with immediate effect in the jurisdictions of the concerned municipal bodies. The code will remain in effect until the completion of the electoral process.
